We respect individual needs and wishes caring for the whole person to help them achieve the best possible quality of life.

Families, friends and carers are offered additional support and help during the illness and in bereavement.

Top Award For Kirkwood Hospice

In October 2005 the “Nursing Times” journal named Kirkwood Hospice as the “Top Small Employer” of nurses in their survey designed to determine the top 100 places for nurses to work in the UK.

In winning this prestigious award Kirkwood Hospice beat off stiff competition from many other hospices and health care organisations such as some NHS Walk In centres.

Employees of all the organisations who were entered in this category were asked to complete a questionnaire and Kirkwood Hospice came top of all of the entrants. Kirkwood’s nurses told the Nursing Times that the Hospice is a close-knit team, enjoying a high level of caring support from management. There are lots of opportunities for career development and excellent working conditions.

“I am delighted that the hard work which has been put into making Kirkwood Hospice a great place to work has been recognised by this prestigious award”, said Christine Springthorpe, Director of Clinical Services. “At Kirkwood Hospice we know our staff well and are committed to eachother’s well being. This helps to create a caring environment for our staff as well as a caring environment for our patients”, Christine added.

Further recognition was received when in Jan 2008 Kirkwood was once again named as one of the top 100 organisations for nurses to work in.
