A huge thank you to all Hospice supporters who took part in the fourth Midnight Memory Walk, held on Saturday 19th June.
Over 1,000 walkers took part in this year's Midnight Memory Walk, pledging over £100,000 towards patient care.
The 10 mile circular sponsored road walk started and finished at The Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield. There was also a shorter 6 mile route more suitable for younger children and wheelchairs. As usual everyone had the opportunity to opt for the shorter route on the night if they wished.
Registration opened at 10.00pm and the entertainment started. Andrea Bird & Friends performed a spectacular fire show, hundreds of faces were painted by Lucy Crowhurst. Kirkwood's very own Tony Shaw provided the music and Karen Porter, a Rosemary Conley fitness instructor held a great warm-up before the walkers (plus several pushchairs and a few four-legged friends!) left the Galpharm Stadium on the stroke of Midnight when Hospice Mascot, Duncan the Dragon, cut the yellow ribbon.
“The Midnight Memory Walk has now become a firm date in many people’s diaries with growing numbers each year. This is a wonderful event with a unique atmosphere as every participant is walking in memory of a loved one” said Events Fundraiser, Jane Dutton. “There is much laughter and a few tears as walkers tell us why they are walking and this makes it an unforgettable night. As well as walkers from across Kirklees people come from all over the country to remember loved ones, many of whom have been cared for at Kirkwood.
Thank you to everyone who has helped in any way to make this event such a wonderful success, especially all those who have walked and raised thousands of pounds for patient care.
Special thanks to our sponsor, The Venue. Also to our supporters, RAYNET, St John’s Ambulance, Hepworth Honda, Nigel Clegg of Complete Cuisine, The Galpharm Stadium & Shepley Spring Water.”
