In-Patient Care

The Hospice’s 25 year old In-Patient unit is being extended and refurbished during the 12 month period from June 2012 to June 2013. Click here to find out more about this exciting project

If you need hospice inpatient care during this time, our own experienced and specially trained clinical staff will be able to care for you on a dedicated Hospice unit at Ward 11, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

All of your care will be provided by hospice medical, nursing and other clinical staff and the service will remain totally separate from the rest of the NHS services at the hospital. Kirkwood Hospice will be fully responsible for your care and treatment during your admission. Our catering staff will make your meals and the ward will be cleaned by our own staff.  Our dedicated volunteers will continue to support our staff to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Your family and friends will be able to visit at any time as long as you want them to do so.

How to be referred for any hospice service including admission

Your own Doctor (GP), District Nurse, hospital Consultant or any professional involved in your care may refer you after discussing this with you first.

If you are in hospital you will be referred to the hospital Palliative Care Team who will visit you and make a referral to the Hospice if this is needed.

Alternatively, you, or a member of your family or friend may contact us to ask about referral. Contact the Community Palliative Care Team on 01484 557790.

All of our other services that support patients and families in Kirklees remain fully operational at the main hospice building in Dalton. Information about all of these is available in the ‘Caring for Patients’ pages of this website.
