Fundraising And Shops
In 2007, Kirkwood Hospice’s total costs are expected to be £3.4 million. The local Primary Care Trusts give grants to the Hospice totalling £635,000. This means that we need to raise over £2.7 million in voluntary income, this year.
In order to raise this money we rely on the support of individuals, companies, organisations – people like you. There are many ways in which you can help Kirkwood Hospice, from taking part in one of our events to joining our lottery, from shopping in one of our eleven shops to organising your own fundraising initiative. However you help, your support will be greatly appreciated and your gift will help Kirkwood Hospice to provide care for the people of Kirklees who need us.
Please remember that our team of fundraisers is here to help you. If you have any queries about fundraising or need further information please do not hesitate to call us on telephone number 01484 557911 or e-mail Ann Sweeney, Fundraising Administrator.
Your gift will help to secure the future of Kirkwood Hospice – Thank You.

Leave A Legacy
Where there's a will... there's a way
Every year, many people choose to remember Kirkwood Hospice in their will, helping to ensure that the work of the Hospice can continue, after their death.
If, after taking care of any family or personal commitments, you would like to leave a gift to Kirkwood Hospice in your will, you should consult your solicitor. There are two main ways of leaving a legacy to the Hospice.
A Residuary Gift
When leaving a residuary gift you decide the percentage of your estate which you would like to be given to Kirkwood Hospice, after all other pecuniary claims on your estate have been settled.
A Pecuniary Gift
When leaving a pecuniary gift you state the amount of money you wish to leave to Kirkwood Hospice.

Hospice Shops
Kirkwood Hospice opened its first permanent shop in Huddersfield in 1988. Since then, the shop network has expanded and in April 2007, Kirkwood opened its eleventh shop, in Honley.
We sell good quality, second-hand clothes, bric-a-brac and furniture. All the goods that we sell are donated to the shops by our supporters so if you are clearing out your cupboards or wardrobes please do remember Kirkwood Hospice and donate any good quality items to us. People will only buy good quality items so if you are unsure as to whether your donation would be suitable please consider if you, or your friends, would buy it. If the answer is “yes” then we would love to accept it. Thank you.
Items can be donated at any of our shops or at the Hospice. If you do not have transport or the items are too large to be transported by car then it is possible for one of our drivers to collect items from your home address at a mutually convenient time. Please contact Angela Dyson or Susan Marsden on telephone number 01484 557911 to arrange this.
When donating goods please be aware that most bags or boxes of goods will have to be carried up or down stairs. It is therefore helpful if you can split any donations into several small bags or boxes rather than one very heavy load. Thank you.
The hospice also has a furniture warehouse, adjacent to its shop in Lindley, where items of furniture can be viewed. The hospice always welcomes donations of good quality items and these can be made via any of its shops, or at the hospice itself. For larger items of quality furniture, the hospice can organise a collection service (please call Hazel Beaumont on 01484-452874 for details).
The shop network raises vital funds to assist the hospice in providing care. In 2006, the shops contributed over £870,000 in income towards the £3.4million that Kirkwood must raise every year in order to maintain its services.
