Midnight Memory Walk

Kirkwood Hospice held its 25th Anniversary Midnight Memory Walk on Saturday 23rd June 2012. This was Kirkwood’s sixth walk and welcomed those who join the walk every year and over 200 who entered for the first time. Although the bulk of walkers came from across Kirklees, people came from all over the country to walk in memory of loved ones.

Registration opened at 10.00pm and the entertainment started. Ber Cirque brought the Circus to the Galpharm with a spectacular fire show, hundreds of faces were painted by Lucy Crowhurst and Paul Clarke was the D.J. for the night. There was a fantastic party atmosphere and Karen Porter held a great Zumba warm-up. On the stroke of midnight 1000 walkers (including several pushchairs and a good contingent of four-legged friends) had a spectacular send off as Hospice Mascot, Duncan the Dragon, cut the yellow ribbon and fired an amazing balloon release.

“The Midnight Memory Walk is a wonderful event with a unique atmosphere as every participant is walking in memory of a loved one” said Events Fundraiser, Jane Dutton.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped in any way to make this event such a wonderful success, especially all those who have walked and raised thousands of pounds for patient care. It will be some time before we have a final figure but approximately £77,000 WAS PLEDGED ON THE NIGHT (PLUS GIFT AID).
