Leaving a Gift in your Will for Kirkwood Hospice

It costs Kirkwood Hospice over £11,000 every day to maintain its services. Many people choose to remember Kirkwood Hospice in their will, helping to ensure that the work of the Hospice can continue, after their death. Last year, care for one in every six of our patients was funded through the generosity of supporters leaving us a gift in their will.

£50 or £5million, every gift makes a difference. Your gift could care for a patient in our in-patient unit or day care in our Support & Therapy Centre, or provide counselling for a bereaved family. Alternatively, perhaps you have a non-monetary item you would like to leave to charity - a painting, antique or piece of jewellery. These, too, can be turned into funds to help Kirkwood continue to care.

If you would like to leave a gift to Kirkwood Hospice in your will, you should consult your solicitor. There are two main ways of leaving a legacy to the Hospice.

A Residuary Gift
This is a gift which comprises the balance of an estate after all other legacies or claims on an estate have been settled. When leaving a residuary gift you decide the percentage of your estate which you would like to be given to Kirkwood Hospice.

A Pecuniary Gift
This is a fixed monetary amount included as a gift to Kirkwood Hospice. When leaving a pecuniary gift you state the amount of money you wish to leave.
