Kirkheaton Support Group

The Kirkheaton Hospice Support Group has a long history.  Back in September 1981, at a meeting of the Hospoice Building Fund at the St. Patricks Centre, it was agreed that hospice support groups would be formed across Kirklees to support the fundraising effort for Kirkwood Hospice.

So, in October 1981 a meeting was held at 21 Lane Side in Kirkheaton, attended by 8 people, to plan the first ever fundraising event, a pie and pea suppeer and bowling match held at the Kirkheaton Conservative Club.

Since that day, the group has gone from strength to strength.  Now hosted by the Kirkheadon Liberal club, who kindly allow the group to hold fundraising events free of charge, the group last year raised over £7,500 for the Hospice.

Vera Drake who attended that very first meeting back in 1981 chairs the group assisted by secretary Freda Trigg and a group of volunteers who organise and run a host of varied fundraising events throughout the year.

New volunteers are always needed so if you would like to join the group, please telephone Freda on Huddersfield 535603.  You will be assured of a warm welcome.
