CELEBRATE WORLD BOOK DAY WITH KIRKWOOD

World Book Day will take place in the UK on Thursday 6 March, and is a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

Kirkwood Hospice’s 11 charity shops - located throughout Kirklees - will be marking the day in a variety of different ways.

Susan Marsden, one of the Retail Coordinators at the Hospice said “As a group our shop teams were keen to celebrate the importance of World Book Day”  Susan added “We are planning a number of different initiatives ranging from book discounts to providing book themed fancy dress outfits.  I’d like to invite everyone in the area to call into their local shop and see what’s going on there.”

In addition to these shop based activities a Book Sale is being hosted at the Hospice in Albany Road, Dalton on Saturday 1 March from 12 noon – 4pm, light refreshments will be available.

MEET AUTHOR AT HOSPICE SHOP ON WORLD BOOK DAY

A series of events have been planned by the 11 Kirkwood Hospice shops situated throughout Kirklees to celebrate world book day on 6 March 2008.

The Dewsbury shop at 5 Corporation St., has invited local author Fred Butler, of “Up The Snicket, Down The Ginnel and Over Yonder” fame, to spend time with them on that day between 10am and 12 noon.

Carol Dipper, Deputy Manager at Dewsbury said “As part of the World Book Day Celebrations we decided we would like to invite a local author to spend time with us, talking to customers and reading extracts from his books.   Fred is well known to us at the Hospice as he not only volunteers his time tending the gardens, but he has also raised thousands of pounds by giving humorous talks based on the experiences retold in his books about his life growing up in the shoddy town area.  We are most grateful that Fred is able to join us and we would encourage customers to pay us a visit on that day to listen to his tales first hand.”

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

Fred Butler together with staff, volunteers and customers will be available between 10am and 12 noon on 6 March for a photograph opportunity.  Please contact Carol Dipper direct on 01924 451004 to arrange.
