Behind the Scenes

The Hospice couldn't run without the help of the many volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes in Fundraising, Administration, Finance and Catering to name but a few.

There are lots of volunteering opportunities for those who want to offer their skills but don't wish to interact with patients or customers. Take a look at the kind of roles that we can offer below. We're sure there is something that will catch your eye:

Volunteer Receptionist Fallback

Reception is staffed during normal office hours by volunteers and staff, and in the evening and at weekends by volunteers alone, as it tends to be less busy at these times. A typical shift involves welcoming visitors, responding to telephone enquiries, taking messages for staff, use of the till and other tasks that may be requested from time to time.

Hospitality Volunteer (In-Patient Unit) Fallback

As a Hospitality Volunteer you will be involved in a wide range of work which is of assistance to in-patients and the nursing team. Duties include taking refreshments to patients and visitors; washing up; cleaning of the visitor kitchens; and helping out in the laundry when required. You are encouraged to chat with patients and visitors during your shift as you go about your duties.

Hospitality Volunteer (Support & Therapy Centre) Fallback

The Support & Therapy Service provides a happy and welcoming environment for day-patients to meet and talk with others, while receiving care from a range of professionals, both clinical and non-clinical. Dedicated Hospitality Volunteers help make patients feel comfortable and at ease by serving refreshments; helping with lunch; listening and chatting with them; and supporting them in activities and group participation.

Family and Spiritual Care Volunteers Fallback

The Family Care Team offers psychological, emotional and spiritual support to anyone threatened by a life-limiting illness, their family and friends. Experienced and trained Volunteer Counsellors and Bereavement Support Volunteers offer support, pre and post bereavement, to help people come to terms with their situation. Chaplaincy Volunteers offer spiritual care to anyone who wishes to access it; giving time and support to those affected by a life-limiting illness, including regular visits to the In-patient Unit and Support & Therapy.

Fundraising and Lottery Volunteers Fallback

Enthusiastic and active individuals are always needed to help our Fundraising Team promote the Hospice, organise fundraising events in the community and take part in one-off activities such as bucket collections. Volunteers can also get involved with the Hospice Lottery. We’re very keen to grow the numbers taking part each week and promotional activity is key to us reaching our target. Hours are flexible and can be adapted to suit.
