Architectural Company with designs on a Fundraising Marvel
It all started a year ago, when Brighouse-based HW Architectural decided upon Kirkwood Hospice as their Charity of the Year for 2016/17.
With the help of business apprentices, Nicole French and Stella Illingworth, the company pulled out all the stops to raise a staggering £1,860 in aid of the Dalton-based Hospice.
Through a variety of individual money-raisers, including an action-packed Gung Ho event and a challenging half marathon, the devoted team got creative to raise the funds.

Similar in concept to the famous ‘It’s A Knockout’ contests, the Leeds Gung Ho event comprises a 5k course with various inflatables, obstacles and a bouncy castle, plus the opportunity for all lucky contestants to get covered head to toe in foam.
Nine members of the HWA Team, of all ages and abilities, took part to raise £800 from this one event alone in aid of their chosen charity.
Other events that helped raise the remaining £1,000 plus included gift and cake sales, a raffle, a ‘guess the name of the dog’ competition and a Rock n’ Roll half marathon in Liverpool.
Generous donations from various collection tins located around the HWA head office throughout the year also played their part.
"Working with Kirkwood Hospice has been a great experience. Before I came, I thought Kirkwood Hospice was just a charity, but when you see it in action it’s so much more than that." Nicole French
Earlier in the year, 17-year-old Nicole had visited the Hospice and been truly impressed by what she saw on her guided tour.
The Receptionist and Business Administrator said: “Working with Kirkwood Hospice has been a great experience. Before I came, I thought Kirkwood was just a charity, but when you see it in action, it’s so much more than that.
“Seeing all the different aspects in person was just amazing. It was both emotional and fulfilling.”
Speaking of why HWA chose Kirkwood as their Charity of the Year, colleague and Finance Administrator, Stella said:
“Everyone I speak to just loves Kirkwood Hospice and says what a nice place it is.”

At the cheque presentation on 24th October, Community Fundraiser, Lyndsey Richardson, was keen to thank the company for their generous donation.
She said: “The money HWA and other caring companies raise for us makes a real difference at Kirkwood.
“Wherever possible, it’s important for our supporters to come and visit the Hospice to get a true idea of what we are all about and how their money is really going to make a difference.
“It goes a long way towards building successful relationships with businesses in the Kirklees community and to hear that the staff really do enjoy it, is just fantastic.”
