Cleckheaton family cover themselves in colour for Kirkwood Hospice
Erica Hudson, of Cleckheaton, has taken part in the Kirkwood Colour Rush several times along with her family and friends to raise money for Kirkwood in memory of husband, Craig.
Erica and her family cover themselves in colour every year for Kirkwood Hospice to raise money for the Craig Hudson Tribute Fund. Craig, Erica’s husband, was cared for at the end of his life by Kirkwood in 2011 and Erica has supported the Hospice ever since.
Erica explains why she enjoys the Colour Rush so much…
“The Colour Rush is such a fun event. There’s always a lovely atmosphere and it’s a great day out for the whole family. It takes place in the lovely setting of Oakwell Hall.
“My husband, Craig, died at the Hospice in 2011 and we have bench in his memory at Oakwell Hall, which makes the event more poignant for us.
“There is always a large group of us who do the Colour Rush. The kids absolutely love it and we’ve even had a 3 year old take part.

“It’s a rewarding experience and makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something. 5k is a challenging distance but you can go at your own pace whether it’s walking or running. Above all else, it’s heaps of fun!
“Craig spent 8 weeks on the In-Patient Unit at Kirkwood before he died in 2011. I will always be grateful for the way the Hospice looked after him and supported me and the kids during such a difficult and emotional time.
“The love and care we received from the staff was incredible. They made the time we had left as a family more meaningful and allowed me and the kids to say goodbye properly.
“I am happy that we were able to share some quality time together before Craig died. It made all the difference in the world.
“The Hospice was able to give Craig the comfort and dignity in his final days that he would not have had otherwise. I am not sure what I would have done without Kirkwood.

“It would have been impossible for me to look after Craig as well as the children. Kirkwood will forever hold a very special place in my heart.
“With the passing of time our memories of Kirkwood do not fade. We’re always thrilled to take part in the Colour Rush to have a really great time but also to raise money for the Hospice. They were there for us when we really needed their help. We’ll never forget this.”
The Kirkwood Hospice Colour Rush is a great way to have fun with the whole family and support Kirkwood at the same time.
