Dalton couple brings festive cheer to families on Kirkwood’s In-Patient Unit
Daniel Maginess and Estelle Wood brought a little bit of joy to families on Kirkwood’s In-Patient Unit on Christmas day – delivering very special presents boxes for every patient and family.
Daniel’s mum, Angela Sutcliffe, was cared for by Kirkwood in 2012. She sadly died on February 24th of that year. He and Estelle have been supporting the charity ever since.
The Dalton couple tries to do something every year to support Kirkwood. They regularly take part in the Midnight Memory Walk and have even thrown themselves out of a plane at 15,000 feet.
The couple decided to do something a little bit different this year, and came up with the idea of creating present boxes for patients and families.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t take part in the walk this year, so we thought this would be a nice way to bring a bit of joy to people here over Christmas.
“It can be a really tough time for if you’re staying at Kirkwood over the festive period, so we wanted to do something nice.
“We put a few different things into the box for people to enjoy. We thought it would be nice to include a few little decorations for patients to put in their rooms and we’ve also put in some treats and snacks for everyone to share.
Estelle and Daniel drop off presents at the Hospice.
We also wanted to include a little keepsake – something that the family could enjoy together. So we have added some games in like dominoes. Hopefully this will give families something to do together and enjoy.
And the couple even thought about the nursing staff who will be working on Christmas day, dropping a special box off for them too.
“The team at Kirkwood does a fantastic job and we wanted to make a box for those who will be working hard over Christmas. Their box includes tea and coffee and some nice little treats for them to enjoy.”
Everyone at Kirkwood would like to say a big thank you to Daniel and Estelle for their wonderful donation.
