Keeping Dignity at the heart of Kirkwood
At Kirkwood, our nursing team, care staff and all employees strive to keep dignity of our patients at the heart of everything we do. Last week, we marked Dignity Action Day in honour of this.
Friday 1st February 2019 marked Dignity Action Day; a national campaign and annual opportunity to promote dignity in our place of care.
Kirkwood employees display their 'Dignitree'
Dignity Action Day gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people's rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people receiving care.
Dignity Action Day aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives. Each year, health and social care workers all over the country take part in this day in small ways to promote dignity in their place of work.
Through supporting Dignity Action Day, Kirkwood hopes to raise awareness of the importance of dignity in care, as well as reminding employees that they have a right to be treated with dignity and respect too.
To mark this special occasion, at Kirkwood we asked patients, families, staff and volunteers to write down what dignity means to them, and add it as a leaf upon our ‘Dignitree’.
Dignity at Kirkwood may mean things such as independence, being informed, having choices and ‘remembering that I’m still me’.
