Lindley community come together for Kirkwood
On Friday 24th January, the Lindley Liberal Club opened its doors for the local community to come together to enjoy a cuppa and cake for Kirkwood.
For a number of years, Dawn, secretary of the Lindley Liberal Club, has been supporting the work of her local hospice, Kirkwood.
To kick start the New Year, Dawn and her team hosted their very own Cuppa for Kirkwood event in the club and invited everyone from the local community and beyond to come together for a good cause.
When the doors opened at 10am, the club filled with Lindley residents who were given a warm welcome and served delicious cakes and a warming cuppa.
Dawn and her team were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who attended, and many businesses donated towards the event, including Lindley based Hartley’s Bakers and Confectioners providing the delicious cakes, and The Flower Box who donated a beautiful bouquet of flowers to be raffled.

Amongst those attending on the day were David and Lesley Stocks who live in Lindley village. David initially founded the Hospice back in the early 1980’s after his father died of cancer.
After writing a letter to the Examiner with the idea to build a Hospice, David found that other like-minded individuals came forward to form a committee to help build the Hospice which opened its doors in 1987.
Kirkwood’s Community Fundraiser, Julia Owen, said: “It was a pleasure to be a part of this community event and to see new and familiar faces supporting Kirkwood.
“It was especially lovely to see David and Lesley. I know how much they enjoy seeing communities come together as they did when fundraising to build the Hospice, so for them to be able to attend an event in their own village meant a lot to them.”
Julia also expressed her gratitude towards Dawn and her team for organising the successful morning and for raising a fantastic £430, which was then kindly topped up to £450 by an individual who was unable to be there on the day.
“We are so grateful to Dawn and her team for hosting the Cuppa for Kirkwood. We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to join us on the day and donated so generously.”
Guest, Jean said: “We’ve loved it! When’s the next one? It’s been fantastic. The Liberal club is such a great venue and atmosphere.”
