Longley Farm keeps fundraising local with Kirkwood

Locally renowned firm, Longley Farm, collectively chose Kirkwood as their 2019 Charity of the Year and after a successful year of fundraising; the business raised a staggering £4,088 for their local Hospice.

Founded in 1948, Longley Farm has been making dairy products in Kirklees for over half a century.

In 2019, they decided to keep their fundraising local as Kirkwood Hospice was chosen by a majority vote to be their Charity of the Year.

Having previously supported Kirkwood by sponsoring the 2017 Christmas Fair and the 2018 Trail Run, both Longley Farm and Kirkwood were delighted to see the local charity nominated by its staff.

Over the course of the year, they raised a staggering £4,088 for patient care at Kirkwood and in the Kirklees community.

Delighted at the effort put into their Charity of the Year scheme and because of personal knowledge of the work of the Hospice, Longley Farm owner, Jimmy Dickinson, also match funded the amount they raised, adding £1,744 to their initial total.

Jimmy said: “My mother helped out for many years in the Holmfirth shop and for at least thirty years, my father saved stamps for them.

“A strong memory is of a Saturday morning job, trimming round the edges and counting them up in batches of a hundred. As a business, we’re still doing it.”

The year’s fundraising also included sponsorship money of the Midnight Memory Walk back in June.

Kirkwood Fundraising Manager, Beverley Shaw, is delighted to see the ongoing relationship with Longley Farm continue.

Beverley said: “Longley Farm is a long-established family business in the Kirklees community and it’s wonderful to see their support in 2019 resulting in such a fantastic amount raised for Kirkwood.

“This amazing amount could fund 18 home visits from a Kirkwood Community Nurse in the Holme Valley. It was a pleasure to meet the team at Longley Farm and thank them all personally.”
