Morrison’s Misfits are crowned the winners at Kirkwood It’s a Knockout event
Back in June, ‘Morrisons Misfits’ from the local village of Meltham, put forward a team to join Kirkwood for an actioned-packed day at the second annual It’s a Knockout event.
Employees from Meltham Morrisons took on the famous It’s a Knockout back in June for Kirkwood Hospice and were crowned the ultimate winners of the team building event.
Earlier in the year, Price Integrity Assistant at Morrisons, Trish Barrowclough, saw the Kirkwood It’s a Knockout challenge and knew she had to be a part of the fun-filled challenge.
Trish said: “I’ve always wanted to take part in It’s a Knockout from seeing it on TV, so as soon as I saw the leaflet for Kirkwood, I got a team together that very same day.”
Surprised by the uptake from her colleagues, it didn’t take long before Trish was planning their fundraising events.
Trish said: “I was always thinking of ways to fundraise, I came up with the ideas and the team helped bring them to life.
“We planned everything from selling sweet cones, organising bucket collections, bag packing, and one colleague even had his legs waxed at the front of our store!
“The fundraising created a great vibe instore and helped with staff morale.”
Trish and her colleagues were taken aback with the support they received from their local community.
Trish said: “As soon as the customers heard it was for Kirkwood, they were really generous.
“Even though Meltham is a small community, so many people have used Kirkwood’s services.”
The team helping each other to tackle the obstacles
On the day of the event, the vibrant team of ten from Morrisons arrived at the Dram Centre in Dalton, donning bright yellow t-shirts ready to finally take on the challenge.
They tackled huge inflatables, wacky obstacles and had lots of laughter throughout the day.
Trish took her role as team leader very seriously. When she wasn’t busy thinking of the next fundraising idea she was thinking of ways to look after her team on the day, including providing drinks, snacks, and foil blankets.
Trish said: “We really enjoyed the event, it was like a team building day.
“We took so many photos; we have loved looking through them. They will all be added to our staff room Wall of Shame.”
The team were proud to present Kirkwood with a cheque for an incredible £2,148, along with the wonderful news that Morrison’s Head office would match their donation to make it a grand total of £4,296.
Since the event, Trish and her team have caught the fundraising bug and plan to take part in a skydive in 2020!
Kirkwood would like to say a big thank you to Morrisons for keeping participants hydrated on the day by kindly donating water.
