Mother and Son to get colourful for Kirkwood in memory of someone special
Mandy Tebble, of Lepton, and her 15-year-old son, Harry, will be covering themselves in colour this September to support Kirkwood in memory of Mandy’s step-sister, Angela, who died at Kirkwood in March 2017.
Set to take on the Kirkwood Hospice Colour Rush on Sunday 8th September, Mandy Tebble and her son, Harry, are completing the boldest 5k in memory of Angela Bentley.
Mandy’s step-sister, Angela, aged just 50-years-old, was cared for on Kirkwood’s In-Patient Unit during her final weeks in March 2017. After seeing first-hand the care Angela and her family received during this difficult and heart-breaking time, Mandy and Harry felt inspired to give something back to their local Hospice.
Angela was always a keen fundraiser herself. Throughout her illness she would do anything she could to support Kirkwood with the selfless motivation to raise enough money to cover the cost of her stay when the time came. This included a headshave, organising Halloween parties and attending Kirkwood events with her homemade bath bombs and soaps which she made with her sister, Jackie.
Mandy said: “Angela did so much during her illness, she stayed so positive and put her focus into fundraising for Kirkwood, so this is our way to continue Angela’s legacy.
“When we first found out that Angela was coming to the Hospice In-Patient Unit, I was apprehensive about visiting. But when we arrived it was such an amazing and a happy place. Everyone was just amazing from the nurses, to the kitchen staff and the cleaners.”
Harry added: “The support isn’t just for the patient; it’s for the family too.”

In 2018, Mandy and Harry put themselves forward to volunteer at the Oakwell Hall Country Park Colour Rush as an addition to the other ways they were already supporting Kirkwood.
Mandy said: “Whether it’s volunteering, donating or taking part in events such as the Midnight Memory Walk, we will do what we can.”
Harry added: “I am really looking forward to the Colour Rush, it’s just the atmosphere.
“It’s like a big family, everyone is taking part for the same reason, to support Kirkwood. It’s an event for everyone.”
Mandy added: “It’s not always about the sad things, it’s about having fun too.
“You think you’ll never need Kirkwood and then we did need it, as a family. It’s amazing that there is a place like this.”
