Tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks for Kirkwood
Hallmark Cards employees along with their friends and families recently took on the mammoth challenge of the Yorkshire Three Peaks and raised over £2,000 for Kirkwood Hospice.
On Saturday 4th May, staff from Hallmark Cards along with their friends and family embarked on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge for Kirkwood.
They completed the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in an amazing time of 11.5 hours.
The walking group, made up of members of the Hallmark Creative Services Team along with their friends and family, included: Alexandra Jackson, Fran Weldon, Lydia Conway, Mary Wortham, Chris Broadbent, Phil and Andy Pearmain, Emma Burton, Natasha Tucker, Graham Burrows, Lydia Brown, Dominic Weldon and Shaun Duffy.

The fundraising challenge was organised by Hallmark’s Alexandra and Shaun back in January. When deciding on a charity to raise money for, Alexandra invited the group down to Kirkwood as it is a place very close to her heart.
Alexandra said: “My Grandma and Grandad have both been cared for on the In-Patient Unit. It’s a charity very close to my heart.
“Being invited down to the Hospice really opened everyone’s eyes as to what Kirkwood does and how people need it.”
In preparation for the challenge, the group booked in six training sessions over the four months to bond and get together as a team. They tackled the countryside around Hebden Bridge, Halifax and even took on one of the Three Peaks in anticipation for the challenge.
On the day, the group met at 7am sharp to begin the 26 mile walk around the sunny Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Alexandra said: “It was nice; we started as a group and all stayed together.
“Everyone was really friendly, even people that weren’t with us were helping us all up the rocks. We kept passing the same people and giving each other encouragement.”
Shaun added: “We were all playing silly games and laughing as we were tried to keep everyone’s spirits high.”
Completing the challenge has inspired the group to continue getting together. They’ve already picked their next challenge, tackling Scafell Pike in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District National Park.
Alexandra said: “It was difficult, but it was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I never thought I’d be a walker but I really enjoyed it.
“If you’ve never walked the Three Peaks before, nothing can prepare you for it. I didn’t think it’d be as hard as it was, it was mentally and physically challenging.”
The group smashed their target of £500 and raised a staggering £2,196 for patient care at Kirkwood. Alexandra and Shaun paid a visit to Kirkwood at the end of May this year to present Community Fundraiser, Joanna Doherty, with the money they raised.
Joanna said: “It’s wonderful to hear about the team taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and it’s truly amazing how much they have raised for Kirkwood. Everyone at Kirkwood is so grateful.
“Thank you so much to everyone that donated.”
