The Greatest Garden Show raises an astonishing £10,834 for Kirkwood
Mirfield couple Darren and Jackie Brooke opened up their home for a blockbuster garden party in June, inviting guests to join them for a spectacular day of fun for a great cause. The event, compered by Peter Morgan's alter ego 'Max Lemon' raised a staggering £10,834 for the Jackie Morgan Tribute Fund, which has now reached over £74,000 for Kirkwood Hospice since 2015.
Guests packed into the garden of Mirfield couple Darren and Jackie Brooke for a spectacular garden party in aid of Kirkwood Hospice back in June. Organised with the help of fellow Mirfield man, Peter Morgan, the annual event helps to raise money for Kirkwood in memory of Peter’s beloved wife, Jackie Morgan, who was cared for by the Hospice in 2014.
Over 100 guests were served a fabulous afternoon tea in the flower themed marquee before being entertained by singers, comedians and compere Peter, whose outrageous alter ego ‘Max Lemon’ had the crowd in stitches with his take on Hugh Jackman’s Greatest Showman!
On a day of unusually glorious summer sunshine, guests were also able to relax in the beautiful gardens as they sipped prosecco and artisan gin, all served from a vintage horse box and jockey bar.
Max and Darren opened the event 'Hugh Jackman' style, with a choreographed magic show synched to The Greatest Showman's" opening number. Guests were then treated to Jackie's scrumptious afternoon tea, accompanied by maestro piano player Nigel Wavers.
The guests in attendance were wowed by fabulous acts throughout the day, including the creative renditions of local acoustic duo Tom and James, the enchanting vocalist Stacey Dee and the stunning Sutton School of Performing Arts. TV comedian Martin Gold headlined the event, bringing the house down with his laugh out loud one liners.
A hotly contested raffle got guests off their seats and bidding for a range of amazing auction lots, with prizes generously donated from local businesses and friends of the organisers helping to boost funds for Kirkwood.
Kirkwood Hospice Fundraiser, Joanna Doherty, recently joined the Kirkwood team and attended the annual Garden Party for the first time in June. She was blown away by the hard work of everyone involved in hosting the event.
Joanna said: “It’s been such an incredible event to be part of. The hard work and preparation that has gone in to making this Garden Party so special is unbelievable. We are all so grateful for the continued support from Darren, Jackie and Peter. It makes a huge difference for Kirkwood”.
“I’d also like to thank all the guests that attended the event and helped to raised such a huge amount for Kirkwood, and to all the Volunteers, Friends and Family that helped make the day possible."
Peter Morgan set up the Jackie Morgan Tribute fund in 2015 to raise funds for Kirkwood in memory of his wife, Jackie. With the amazing support of his friends Darren and Jackie, who Peter often refers to as his adopted parents – despite being considerably younger than him – Jackie’s Tribute Fund has now raised well over £74,000 for Kirkwood.
Following the smash hit success of this year’s Garden Party, Peter (AKA Max Lemon), Darren and Jackie are planning a 6ixties & 7evnties Music, Dance & Comedy Festival later in the year. The event will take place at The Venue, Birstall on Sunday 20th October. It’s shaping up to be another sell out, so for Table Reservations please contact Max A.S.A.P. by calling: 07530 934332.
