Watercolour painting raises £1,000 for Kirkwood!
Retired Huddersfield Police Officer, Neville Duke, was looking at ways to boost funds for Kirkwood during the coronavirus pandemic. With a passion for creating watercolour paintings, Neville took to his artboard to paint one of Huddersfield’s favourite landmarks to raffle to his friends and family all around the world.
Neville Duke, who now resides in the city of Hull, is known for his previous charity work and passion for supporting communities through raffling his beautiful watercolour paintings.
When he heard about Kirkwood’s fundraising events having to be cancelled, and an appeal for support during the coronavirus, Neville knew he wanted to do something to help.
Neville said: “Kirkwood has cared for so many of my friends over the years. One of my friends Mike also sadly died at Kirkwood only two weeks ago.
“I have been doing charity work for years and organise one-man art exhibitions regularly where the Huddersfield folk have always continued to support me.
“I decided to paint a picture of the marina in Aspley looking towards Castle Hill. It took me two days to complete the watercolour painting.

“I launched the raffle on Facebook on Friday 1st May and within three days I had sold 1,000 tickets! Over half of the tickets sold were from people with no connection to Kirkwood or Huddersfield, including my friends who I had met from around the world on my motorcycle trips - I thought that was really lovely.”
After Neville reached his £1,000 fundraising goal, he drew the raffle and was delighted to announce the winner - Penny, from Huddersfield!
Penny was presented with her winning painting earlier this week and absolutely loves it!
Once we are all able to be together again, we look forward to welcoming Neville and his family to Kirkwood for an official cheque presentation.
