Zak takes to the Trail for the third time in aid of Kirkwood!
Newsome teenager, Zak Masterson, will be taking on the Trail Run for Kirkwood for the third time this year in memory of his Grandma, Barbara Masterson.
On Sunday 1st September, Zak will be taking on the annual Trail Run for the third time in memory of his Grandma, who spent her final weeks on Kirkwood’s In Patient Unit back in June 2017.
The Trail Run, now in its 8th year, is held at Leeds Road playing fields and runners can take to the trail running either 5k or 10k for Kirkwood.
Zak said: “Since my Grandma was in the Hospice and I saw how well they looked after her, I wanted to give something back so I decided to take part in the Trail Run and I really enjoyed it.
"It was nice to be able to spend quality time together as a family. My Grandad Harry was always there, he never left my Grandma’s side.
“As a family, we can’t repay Kirkwood for what they did for my Grandma, so we all like to get involved and support Kirkwood as much as we can.
“My mum and dad go to the monthly coffee mornings at the Hospice and we always like to take part in the Midnight Memory Walk.”
Last year, Zak took on the 5k route and managed to cross the finish line in first place with an incredible time of 23 minutes and 51 seconds. And he managed to raise an impressive £155 in sponsorship too.
“I always wear my Midnight Memory Walk T-Shirt when I take part in the Trail Run.”
