Jane was born and brought up in Liverpool and despite living in Yorkshire for 14 years, still calls it home. After leaving university, she joined the Civil Service as a graduate trainee, envisioning swift progress to foreign places via the Foreign Office or Diplomatic Core – sadly not to be. Work took her to a number of places in the North including Blackpool, Preston and Bolton before a stint at Whitehall. Working with Ministers was a revelation. Developing policies that would impact many people’s lives was quite daunting, especially when the Minister she was working with was Ann Widdecombe.
Jane left the Civil Service in 2000 to work at Kirklees Council, where she is the Assistant Director for Customer and Exchequer Services.
