Members of the team have a range of counselling and psychotherapy qualifications and skills. They are experienced in working with patients, their carers, families and friends. They are part of the multi-disciplinary team that works in all parts of the hospice and they offer:
Family Care and Counselling
- Emotional and psychological support for patients, carers and families
- Support for families through the stressful changes that may occur because of illness
- Liaison with other support agencies
- One to one counselling, psychotherapy and group facilitation
- Support for children and young people through illness and change
- Bereavement Support
The hospice continues to care for family members, friends and carers after death. When someone close to you dies it is normal to grieve. Everyone's grief is unique and coming to terms with the loss of someone you love may be lonely and confusing. For some people the support of friends and relatives can help you to adjust. But sometimes, it can be difficult to find a way through grief.
Bereavement Services provided by the Family Care Team include:
- One to one counselling, psychotherapy and group facilitation
- Bereavement support evenings (groups) on the first Wednesday of every month, 7.30pm – 9pm
- Bereavement support drop-in on alternate Mondays, 9.30am – 1pm. Informal support, art, complementary therapies and counselling may be offered to help individuals who access this service.
- Support for children and young people who are struggling emotionally with the death of a loved one. This can be offered on a one to one basis; in small groups; or by providing information, resources and support to parents, guardians or professionals so that they are better able to provide the support children and young people need.
